MEET CARLOS
Born on the island of Oahu, Hawaii; Carlos Marcano spent his childhood in Whitmore Village a small plantation town surrounded by the scent of rolling pineapple and sugar cane fields; with Mount Ka’ala in the distance it is the last stop before reaching the famous North Shore. It was there Carlos learned the importance of family, community, hard work, and the connection, and responsibility we all have to nature, and the vital role they all play in our everyday lives.
Unfortunately, due to the lack of jobs, affordable housing, and rising cost of living, Carlos’ parents made the decision to relocate to the mainland. After moving from one end of the country to the other they finally settled in Northeast Indiana. He attended New Haven High School, where he participated in baseball, basketball, tennis, and wrestling, activities that all strengthened his work ethic. He graduated in 2003 and attended IPFW while working two jobs where he planned to major in Mechanical Engineering. Though he did not complete his degree, he left with a hunger for learning that he sought to fill elsewhere. |
The opportunity to go into business with his father in 2007 was a key factor in his decision to not complete his degree. For 12 years 808 Tile has provided high quality service to customers in NE Indiana, while contributing positively to the local economy. Carlos’s experiences leading up to and as a business owner have provided him with the insight and perspective to represent his community.
While he has always been a keen observer of the political process, running for office has never been part of the plan. Recent events, however, have made it clear that if we want to see progress, we need to act. Carlos is part of a larger community that feels under represented, so he is ready to fill that role for this community and others like it. Speaking with members of our community, Carlos has learned they want better healthcare, a livable wage, and corruption out of politics. He recognizes the value of our public education system and is appalled at the lack of support and funding. Schools are closing, teachers are not being supported, and unions do not have the same bargaining power they once possessed. Carlos will prioritize these issues by passing and voting on legislation that will enhance the quality of life in Northeast Indiana and the nation. In addition, he plans to continue to partner with and support local organizations who are working towards progress in our district.
Carlos will not accept any corporate PAC money and will rally against the rampant corruption in politics, and the politicians who elevate corporations above the people. Carlos is a strong advocate of Medicare for all, affordable housing, public education (investing in our teachers and students), a Green New Deal, a livable minimum wage that is tied to inflation, ending unnecessary wars and nation building, and in reforming our criminal justice system. Carlos understands the people of NE Indiana because he is one of them.
